In the book, Hillary shares personal experiences, motivations, and reflections, providing insights into his passion for mountaineering and the impact of the Everest expedition on his life.

He also offers cultural perspectives, exploring the Sherpa people and their relationship with the mountains. Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Transfer to your hotel to rest and acclimate. Explore the vibrant streets of Thamel, a popular tourist hub in Kathmandu.

Take a guided tour of Kathmandu's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa.

Lukla to Tok Tok

Take an early morning scenic helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft), enjoying breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Meet your trekking guides and begin your trek towards Phakding. Descend through lush forests, cross suspension bridges, and pass through Sherpa villages.

Tok Tok to Namche Bazaar

Continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River. Cross suspension bridges, ascend steep trails, and enter Sagarmatha National Park. Reach the vibrant Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286ft), the gateway to Everest.

Namche Bazaar

Enjoy acclimatization day to adjust to the altitude. Explore the town of Namche Bazaar and visit the Sherpa Museum. Optional hike to the Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.

Namche Bazaar to Phortse

Resume the trek with stunning views of the Himalayas. Descend to the Dudh Koshi River and cross the famous high suspension bridge. Ascend through rhododendron forests and reach Tengboche  (3,860m/12,664ft), known for its famous monastery. Attend the evening prayer ceremony at Tengboche Monastery.

Phortse to Pangboche

Descend through forests and cross a suspension bridge over the Imja Khola. Ascend gradually through open landscapes, passing yak herds and traditional stone houses.

Pangboche to Dingboche

Reach Dingboche (4,410m/14,468ft), a picturesque village with stunning views of Ama Dablam. Take a short hike to Nagarjun Hill or Chhukung Valley for acclimatization and breathtaking views.

Dingboche to Lobuche

Resume the trek along the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier. Pass memorials dedicated to climbers who lost their lives on Everest. Ascend gradually and reach the village of Lobuche  (4,910m/16,108ft).

Lobuche to EBC to Gorak Shep

Trek to Gorak Shep (5,170m/16,961ft) , a small settlement at the base of Kala Patthar. Leave your belongings at the lodge and continue towards Everest Base Camp. Navigate through rocky trails and the Khumbu Glacier to reach Everest Base Camp (5,364m/17,598ft). Spend time at Base Camp, soak in the atmosphere, and take pictures.

Overnight: Gorak Shep

Gorekshep to Kalapathar to Pheriche

Early morning hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,192ft) for a panoramic sunrise view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, and other peaks. Descend to Gorak Shep, have breakfast, and start descending further. Begin the trek down to Pheriche (4,371m/14,340ft), a village located in a sheltered valley.

Pheriche to Deboche

Descend through the rhododendron and juniper forests. Cross suspension bridges and pass through Sherpa villages.

Deboche to Namche Bazar

Descend through steep trails and cross suspension bridges. Pass through forests, Sherpa settlements, and prayer flags. Reach Namache Bazar for a relaxing afternoon in the village.

Namche Bazar to Kathmandu

Explore Namche Bazar and enjoy tea and snacks with Ang Rita Sherpa, the past Himalayan Trust Executive Director.
